Apple iPad ImageApple released the long-hyped device the Apple iPad, a one-piece tablet-style computer with a thin design and light price.  Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc. made the introduction at Apple's "Latest Creation" event.  The new device is very thin - you can change the homescreen to whatever you want, you can turn it whichever way you'd like; the interface is like an exploded iPhone.  Available in 60-days (from 1/27/2010) and base model (16GB w/o 3G) at $499 dollars.

All of Apple's tablet iPad will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in and will available to purchase in March (wireless only) and April 2010 (3G enabled).  The pay-as-you-go models iPad versions will utilize AT&T (eek!) in the U.S. with two-tiers of pricing (14.99 250gb/mo or $29.99 unlimited).

Introducing the iPad

Is the iPad a large-version of the iPhone?  Well, yes and no.  Yes because the look-and-feel of the OS is very similar.  And no because there will be many differences that are not seen on the surface. On the surface the iPad looks like a over sized iPhone with a similar OS and outside design.  Hope into the iPad and you'll notice things are much different than your iPhone.  First, let's take a further look at the pricing.

iPad Pricing

Pricing has been in question since news of the 'tablet' device first surface.  Some of the industry's top analyst suspected the lowest price point at $1,000.  Apple surprised many with the following pricing figures: 3G Capable iPad Pricing Table 3G Wireless-only Version Apple iPad Wireless Pricing

iPhone Similarities

Now the the pricing it out there, let's jump into some of the similarities between the iPad and iPhone.  For starters, you can slide to unlock the iPad's screen just like the iPhone.
This is the lock screen - icons fly in. Let's go right to the web..."
The iPad will have a Safari browser similar to that on the iPhone in respects that it will not support Adobe's Flash plug-in. The iPad will allow you to flip and tap through your photos just like the iPhone.  One cool new feature will allow you to create albums with Google Maps to pinpoint image locations anywhere on the globe.  As you travel and take more pictures over time this could become a really cool personal photo journal. For all you iPhone users with a lot of money invested in Apps, the iPad will be able to run all of your apps out-of-the-box.  Worried about resolution?  The iPad will be able to run your apps full screen.   Please see the following example using a racing game on the iPad: iPad Application Resolution Change iPhone developers will have an easy transition to the iPad and there undoubtedly will be new talent trying to exploit this new gold rush.
